Camps and Educational Projects

Camps

Farm and Wilderness is a Quaker based outdoor educational foundation running a series of Camps in Vermont. During the 90’s I designed a series of cabins and camp buildings for one of the camps serving 10-14 year old boys. The building of these projects was integrated in the program itself with the boys doing the construction over the course of the summer. All of the buildings were built with hand tools, no power tools, materials came as green rough sawn timber from a local saw mill. With a material budget under $3000 and a summer of effort a cabin that slept 10 would be created.
Over the course of several summers we moved from cabins to a new arts building and finally a major remodel of the camps main lodge. The hands on experience and skills gained by the campers gave them a sense of their own power and ability that is hard to match.
